L'ALBERO BAMBINO
THE CHILD TREE
In the surface of the bark of great trees lie hidden the vestiges of their youth. With every season, new vital matter pushes the old from the inside toward the outside of the trunk, causing tears and cracks in its outermost band: a growth process that forever preserves the oldest traces, worn but not lost, of its youthful stage, bringing them up to the height of our gaze.
In the thick, tormented bark of a centuries-old tree, we believe we see only the venerable signs of age; in reality we are looking simultaneously at the face of the old tree and the surviving traces of its youthful face.
