LIBER TERTIUS DECIMUS
LIBER TERTIUS DECIMUS
Eight of thirteen sheets sketched in watercolour on site and finished in the studio, 2012, at the remains of Capo la Villa, a farmhouse in the locality of Renacci in the Valdarno, whose history is bound to that of my farming family, who after generations abandoned the house and the farm toward the end of the 1960s.
The title of the collection alludes to the thirteenth book of the Aeneid, perhaps conceived and never written by Virgil, in which I ideally read the last words of a thousand-year-old story, born in the myth of Aeneas from the encounter-clash of Greek culture with Italic culture, and concluded in the second half of the twentieth century with the exodus of the peasants from the Tuscan countryside.
The sheets portray the beloved remains of my "stagion lieta".
